Day-by-day itinerary
- Day 1: Rongai Gate to Simba Camp
Drive around Kilimanjaro’s northern side, register and begin through farmland and forest. The first camp sits in open moorland with broad evening views.
- Day 2: Simba to Second Cave
Climb gradually through heath with Kibo ahead. An afternoon acclimatisation walk may be added after lunch before returning to camp.
- Day 3: Second Cave to Kikelewa
Traverse beneath the eastern slopes toward a quieter valley. The changing angle reveals Mawenzi’s jagged profile while the crew monitors pace and hydration.
- Day 4: Kikelewa to Mawenzi Tarn
Make a shorter, steeper climb to the tarn beneath Mawenzi. Use the afternoon for rest and a gentle acclimatisation excursion if everyone is responding well.
- Day 5: Mawenzi Tarn to Kibo
Cross the high alpine saddle to Kibo Hut and summit camp. Eat early, prepare clothing and equipment, and rest before waking late in the evening.
- Day 6: Uhuru Peak to Horombo
Climb through the night to Gilman’s Point and continue toward Uhuru Peak when safe. Descend to Kibo for a short rest, then continue lower to Horombo.
- Day 7: Horombo to Marangu Gate
Finish through moorland and rainforest, complete park procedures and meet the road transfer. The descent remains part of the expedition and is paced carefully.
