The Serengeti rewards time. Its central valleys, northern reaches and southern short-grass plains each have a different seasonal rhythm, so the right base depends on your dates and priorities.
Why visit the Serengeti
Big skies, resident predators and constantly changing wildlife movement make the Serengeti the centre of many northern Tanzania safaris. A private vehicle gives your guide room to respond to sightings rather than follow a fixed convoy schedule.
Where to stay
Central Serengeti works well for broad year-round wildlife viewing. Northern and southern migration areas become more important at particular times of year. We recommend fewer camps and longer stays when possible, protecting time in the field.
How long to allow
Three nights is a useful starting point, while four or more creates more flexibility for full-day drives, changing conditions and slower moments at a promising sighting.
