Day-by-day itinerary

  1. Day 1: Londorossi to forest camp

Complete registration and begin through Kilimanjaro’s western rainforest. Walk slowly from the first hour and arrive with time to review camp routines.

  2. Day 2: Forest to Shira One

Climb out of the trees into heath and moorland, reaching the western edge of the Shira Plateau. Kibo appears ahead when the cloud lifts.

  3. Day 3: Shira Plateau

Cross the plateau gradually with an optional acclimatisation rise. The moderate day helps the body adapt while revealing the mountain’s broad volcanic scale.

  4. Day 4: Lava Tower to Moir

Climb toward Lava Tower before turning to Moir Valley. The higher daytime point followed by a lower camp supports acclimatisation.

  5. Day 5: Moir to Buffalo Camp

Round Kibo’s northern side on a quieter traverse with expansive views toward Kenya. Terrain rolls through high alpine desert rather than climbing continuously.

  6. Day 6: Buffalo to Third Cave

Continue east across remote slopes and sleep near Third Cave. Guides use the afternoon health check to shape the next day’s pace.

  7. Day 7: Third Cave to School Hut

Climb to summit camp, eat and organise equipment for the night. Rest is protected and the guide confirms the summit plan with every climber.

  8. Day 8: Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

Ascend in darkness toward the crater rim and Uhuru Peak if health and weather allow. Descend a long way into thicker air at Mweka Camp.

  9. Day 9: Mweka Gate

Complete the forest descent, sign out and reunite with the transfer team. Crew celebration follows only after the expedition is safely complete.
