Day-by-day itinerary
- Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Complete park formalities and climb steadily through montane forest. The crew sets a deliberately gentle pace while you settle into trail routines and shared hut accommodation.
- Day 2: Mandara to Horombo Hut
Leave the forest for heath and moorland, with views toward Mawenzi and Kibo when weather clears. Eat, hydrate and rest at Horombo.
- Day 3: Horombo acclimatisation
Walk higher toward Mawenzi or Zebra Rocks, then return to sleep at Horombo. This climb-high, sleep-low day is a central reason for choosing six rather than five mountain days.
- Day 4: Horombo to Kibo Hut
Cross the exposed alpine saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo at a measured pace. Arrive early enough to eat, organise summit layers and rest before the night ascent.
- Day 5: Uhuru Peak and descent to Horombo
Start around midnight, climb the scree toward Gilman’s Point and continue around the crater rim toward Uhuru Peak if health and conditions permit. Descend past Kibo to Horombo.
- Day 6: Horombo to Marangu Gate
Walk down through moorland and rainforest, sign out at the gate and meet the transfer vehicle. Celebrate with the crew after all climbers and equipment are safely down.
